I will write my laws in their heart

Hebrews 8:10 – “I will write my laws in their heart”

In today’s study we will be giving you more than 75 verses in the Bible in just under 15 minutes. We are going to be discussing the Covenant of love and Mercy which God has made with us in Christ Jesus. This message is so jammed packed with Good News, that you will likely want to listen to this message over and over again. Your heart will be thrilled and deeply touched by today’s message. Your immediate reaction will be that you will want to share it with everyone you love and care about. That is the effect of the Gospel. It satisfies our inner most longings, and inspires us to want to share its wonderful message with others.

God has promised to us mercy. He has promised to us compassion and forgiveness. God has promised us eternal life. God has promised to give us all the love we could ever want or need, so much so that it will be like a fountain that over flows unto joy, and bliss.

Before we can get to all this wonderful good news, we need to take a moment and look at the New Covenant and see what it is not. Some read about God writing his laws in our hearts under the New Covenant and immediately think of the Ten Commandments.

The New Covenant is the promise that God will be merciful, and put the love of God in our hearts, bring healing, happiness and eternal life. Let us look at a few verses that contrast the Old Covenant Law, and the Promise of the new covenant. We will clearly see that the New Covenant Promise, cannot possibly be the Ten Commandments written in the heart as many have supposed it to be.

.

The “BETTER PROMISES” under the new covenant prove “the law written in the heart” is not the same law given at Mt. Sinai

Luke 1:72
To perform the MERCY PROMISED to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

Hebrews 8:6 (Introduction to the New Covenant)
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was ESTABLISHED UPON BETTER PROMISES

Romans 4:13,14,16
13 For THE PROMISE, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and THE PROMISE made of none effect.
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end THE PROMISE might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Galatians 3:17
And this I say, that THE COVENANT, that was confirmed of God in Christ, THE LAW, WHICH WAS FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY YEARS AFTER, cannot disannul, that it should make THE PROMISE of none effect.

The New Covenant is the “Covenant of Peace.” which God made before the world was made. He reminded people all though out the Old Testament that this is what he truly wanted for them. Hebrews 11 is known as the faith chapter. “And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise. Hebrews 11:39. The New Covenant dispensation is an amazing time  in worlds history, because THE TIME IS NOW COME TO RECEIVE THE PROMISE. “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts 2:39.

The New “Covenant of Mercy” is not the same, as the Old “Covenant of Law” given at Sinai.

Jeremiah 31:31-32
I will make A NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel. NOT ACCORDING TO THE COVENANT THAT I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake.

Hebrews 8:8,9,13
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I WILL MAKE A NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 NOT ACCORDING TO THE COVENANT THAT I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; BECAUSE THEY CONTINUED NOT IN MY COVENANT, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
13 IN THAT HE SAITH, A NEW COVENANT, HE HATH MADE THE FIRST OLD. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

The 10 commandments were NOT given to the fathers of Israel BEFORE Mt. Sinai.

In the giving of the New Covenant, both Jeremiah and Paul plainly said that Covenant was made “when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt.”

The Law given at Sinai was NOT given to Abraham

And this I say, that THE COVENANT, that was confirmed of God in Christ, THE LAW, WHICH WAS FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY YEARS AFTER, cannot disannul, that it should make THE PROMISE of none effect. Galatians 3:17

The law was ADDED because of transgressions UNTIL THE SEED (Christ) CAME to whom the PROMISE was made!” Galatians 3:19.

The “commandments” and “laws” Abraham obeyed (Genesis 26:3)

  1. Abrahan obeyed the command to leave the land of his forefathers.
  2. Abraham obeyed the command to sacrifice his son Isaac.
  3. Abraham obeyed the law given him concerning circumcision.

We are not to ADD to the Bible, nor REMOVE from it. If we want to know the “commandments” and “laws” which Abraham obeyed we much refrain our search to what is actually written.

When God said he would write his laws in our hearts, he was simply saying, “I will place my love in their hearts.”

The Old Covenant was based on law, and works, and ritual ceremonies. The New Covenant is based on the promise of mercy. One might actually call the New Covenant, “The Covenant of Mercy.”

Mark 12:33.

And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

The Old Covenant burnt offerings and sacrifices for breaking the Ten Commandments, has been replaced with the blood of God’s own Son, and with God’s Mercy, and with his placing a supreme love for God and a love for our neighbor in our hearts.

God has promised to take form you a stony heart and to give you a soft and loving heart. Did you know that God is offering you a covenant of mercy? And that God cannot lie? God has promised to be merciful to you.

Luke 1:72.

To perform the MERCY PROMISED TO OUR FATHERS, and to remember his holy covenant.

His Holy Covenant was that God would perform the mercy which he promised to our fathers. Therefore the New Covenant is actually, “The Covenant of Mercy!”

The Old Covenant was The Covenant of Law. The New Covenant is the covenant of love and mercy.

It is written directly in the New Covenant itself.

Hebrews 8:10-12.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

God has promised to put his love in your heart.

Mark 12:33.

And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Romans 5:5.

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

1 Peter 1:22.

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

God Promises that he will not impute our sins against us. What that means is, that God will not keep a record of our sins. Our sins are blotted out. They are washed away. They are forgiven. They are cleansed. As far as Heaven and God are concerned our sins are no more.

Ephesians 4:32.  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 5:26.  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Colossians 1:14.  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Colossians 3:13.  Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Hebrews 8:12.  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Hebrews 9:14.  How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 10:17.  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

1 Peter 1:22.  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

1 John 1:7.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1 John 1:9.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Matthew 18:23-35. (New Century Version.)
“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who decided to collect the money his servants owed him. When the king began to collect his money, a servant who owed him several million dollars was brought to him. But the servant did not have enough money to pay his master, the king. So the master ordered that everything the servant owned should be sold, even the servant’s wife and children. Then the money would be used to pay the king what the servant owed. “But the servant fell on his knees and begged, ’Be patient with me, and I will pay you everything I owe.’ The master felt sorry for his servant and told him he did not have to pay it back. Then he let the servant go free. “Later, that same servant found another servant who owed him a few dollars. The servant grabbed him around the neck and said, ’Pay me the money you owe me!’ “The other servant fell on his knees and begged him, ’Be patient with me, and I will pay you everything I owe.’ “But the first servant refused to be patient. He threw the other servant into prison until he could pay everything he owed. When the other servants saw what had happened, they were very sorry. So they went and told their master all that had happened. “Then the master called his servant in and said, ’You evil servant! Because you begged me to forget what you owed, I told you that you did not have to pay anything. You should have showed mercy to that other servant, just as I showed mercy to you.’ The master was very angry and put the servant in prison to be punished until he could pay everything he owed. “This king did what my heavenly Father will do to you if you do not forgive your brother or sister from your heart.“

The New Covenant is a Covenant of love and mercy. This story illustrates that we are judged by how we treat others. The commandment to love our one another is very serious in the New Covenant. Therefore we ought to do unto others as we would want them to do unto us. Love is the New Covenant Standard.

Love fulfills all of God’s requirements.

There is no law against love.

Galatians 5:22-23.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The Covenant of Law given at Mt. Sinai, as Colossians says, “was against us.” It came through Moses. It was this Covenant that condemned the woman caught in adultery. It was the good news of Jesus Christ that released her from that condemnation. He said to her “neither do I condemn thee.” That wonderful Covenant of mercy and grace came through Jesus Christ. The Old Testament was a Covenant of Law” whereas the New Testament is a “Covenant of Grace.”

John 1:17.

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:1.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.

John 3:17-18.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

1 John 3:21.

Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

THE NEW COVENANT IS BASED ON “BETTER PROMISES”

Study the following 45 verses carefully. They are given WITHOUT COMMENT. See for yourself THE BETTER PROMISES OF THE NEW COVENANT. That they are indeed wonderful AND ARE NOT BASED ON THE LAW OF MT. SINAI! The Bible is very clear! No comment is necessary.

The promises of the New Covenant are concerning the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit, mercy, eternal life, and becoming heirs of the Heavenly Promised Land! The New Covenant is indeed based upon BETTER PROMISES!

    1. Luke 1:72.
    To perform THE MERCY PROMISED TO OUR FATHERS, and to remember his holy covenant;

    2. Luke 24:49.
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

    3. Acts 1:4.
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

    4. Acts 2:33.
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY GHOST, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

    5. Acts 2:39.
For THE PROMISE IS UNTO YOU, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

    6. Acts 7:5.
And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

    7. Acts 13:23.
Of this man’s seed hath GOD ACCORDING TO HIS PROMISE RAISED UNTO ISRAEL A SAVIOUR, JESUS:

    8. Acts 13:32-34
32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that THE PROMISE which was made unto the fathers,
33 GOD HATH FULFILLED THE SAME unto us their children, IN THAT HE HATH RAISED UP JESUS AGAIN; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
34 And as concerning THAT HE RAISED HIM UP FROM THE DEAD, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

    9. Acts 26:6.
6 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:
7 Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope’s sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

    10. Romans 1:1-6
1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto The Gospel Of God,
2 (Which He Had Promised Afore By His Prophets In The Holy Scriptures,)
    3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, BY THE RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD:
5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

    11. Romans 4:13.
For THE PROMISE, That He Should Be The Heir Of The World, WAS NOT to Abraham, or to his seed, THROUGH THE LAW, but through the righteousness of faith.
For IF THEY WHICH ARE OF THE LAW BE HEIRS, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end THE PROMISE might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

    12. Romans 4:20.
    He staggered not at THE PROMISE OF GOD through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

    13. Romans 4:21.
And being fully persuaded that, WHAT HE HAD PROMISED, he was able also to perform.

    14. Romans 15:8.
Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, TO CONFIRM THE PROMISES made unto the fathers:

    15. 2 Corinthians 1:20.
For ALL THE PROMISES OF GOD IN HIM ARE YEA, AND IN HIM AMEN, unto the glory of God by us.

    16. 2 Corinthians 7:1.
HAVING THEREFORE THESE PROMISES, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

    17. Galatians 3:14.
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; THAT WE MIGHT RECEIVE THE PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT THROUGH FAITH.

    18. Galatians 3:16.
Now to Abraham and his seed WERE THE PROMISES MADE. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

    19. Galatians 3:17.
And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, THE LAW, WHICH WAS FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY YEARS AFTER, cannot disannul, that it should make THE PROMISE of none effect.

    20. Galatians 3:18.
For IF THE INHERITANCE BE OF THE LAW, IT IS NO MORE OF PROMISE: but God gave it to Abraham BY PROMISE.

    21. Galatians 3:19.
Wherefore then serveth THE LAW? It WAS ADDED because of transgressions, TILL THE SEED SHOULD COME to whom THE PROMISE was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

    22. Galatians 3:21,22.
Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for IF THERE HAD BEEN A LAW GIVEN which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been BY THE LAW.
    23. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, THAT THE PROMISE BY FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST MIGHT BE GIVEN TO THEM THAT BELIEVE.

    24. Galatians 3:29.
And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE.

    25. Galatians 4:21-31.
21 Tell me, YE THAT DESIRE TO BE UNDER THE LAW, do ye not hear the law?
22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman WAS BY PROMISE.
24 Which things are an allegory: for THESE ARE THE TWO COVENANTS; THE ONE FROM THE MOUNT SINAI, WHICH GENDERETH TO BONDAGE, which is Agar.
25 For this AGAR IS MOUNT SINAI IN ARABIA, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of THE BONDWOMAN SHALL NOT BE HEIR WITH THE SON OF THE FREEWOMAN.
31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

    26. Ephesians 1:13.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, Ye Were Sealed With That Holy Spirit Of Promise,

    27. Ephesians 2:12.
That at that time Ye Were Without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, AND STRANGERS FROM THE COVENANTS OF PROMISE, having no hope, and without God in the world:

    28. Ephesians 3:6.
That The Gentiles Should Be Fellow-Heirs, and of the same body, And Partakers of His Promise In Christ By The Gospel:

    29. 1 Timothy 4:8.
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, HAVING PROMISE of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

    30. 2 Timothy 1:1.
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, According To THE PROMISE Of Life Which Is In Christ Jesus,

    31. Titus 1:2.
    IN HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE, which God, that cannot lie, PROMISED BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN;

    32. Hebrews 4:1.
Let us therefore fear, LEST, A PROMISE BEING LEFT US Of Entering Into HIS Rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

    33. Hebrews 6:12.
That ye be not slothful, but followers Of Them Who Through Faith And Patience INHERIT THE PROMISES.

    34. Hebrews 7:6.
But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, And Blessed Him That Had The Promises.

    35. Hebrews 8:6.
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also He Is The Mediator Of A Better Covenant, which was ESTABLISHED UPON BETTER PROMISES.

    36. Hebrews 9:15.
And for this cause He Is The Mediator Of The New Testament, that by means of death, FOR THE REDEMPTION OF THE TRANSGRESSIONS THAT WERE UNDER THE FIRST TESTAMENT, they which are called might RECEIVE THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL INHERITANCE.

    37. Hebrews 10:23.
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for HE IS FAITHFUL THAT PROMISED;)

    38. Hebrews 10:36.
For ye have need of patience, that, After Ye Have Done the Will of God, YE MIGHT RECEIVE THE PROMISE.

    39. Hebrews 11:13.
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

    40. Hebrews 11:39.
And These All, Having Obtained A Good Report Through Faith, RECEIVED NOT THE PROMISE:

    41. James 1:12.
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall Receive the Crown of Life, Which THE LORD HATH PROMISED To Them That Love Him.

    42. James 2:5.
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and Heirs of the Kingdom WHICH HE HATH PROMISED to them that love him?

    43. 2 Peter 3:9.
The Lord Is Not Slack CONCERNING HIS PROMISE, as some men count slackness; But Is Longsuffering to Us-Ward, Not Willing That Any Should Perish, But That All Should Come To Repentance.

    44. 2 Peter 3:13.
Nevertheless We, According To HIS PROMISE, Look For New Heavens And A New Earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

    45. 1 John 2:25.
AND THIS IS THE PROMISE THAT HE HATH PROMISED US, EVEN ETERNAL LIFE.
