Tonight an excellent question was posed on the home page of LoudCry.org/sda. I answered it, however it is the 26th & 27th comments posted on that page, and I did not want it to get buried, so I thought it best to make a new post.
“The enemies of God’s law”
Actually I love the commandments of Jesus, I believe Christians ought to go into all the world teaching them to obey all things that JESUS HIMSELF COMMANDED!
“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. John 15:12
If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1 John 3:23
2 John 1:4-6
I rejoice greatly that I have found certain of thy children walking in truth, even as we received commandment from the Father. And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. And this is love, that we should walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it.
According to John the Great Commandment, to “love one another” is “His (God’s) commandments” that “we have received from the Father.” He who “loves one another” fulfills “God’s Commandments” in Revelation 12:17, 14:12, 22:14 – these verses are also written by John.
I allow scripture to do its own interpreting especially when we find definitions for terms within writings of the same author, most especially when we see this same definition repeatedly throughout his gospel and all of his writings.
By placing the “law of Christ” (i.e. the teachings of Jesus), on center stage we fulfill the Great Commission. Christ said it is his commandments that are to go into all the world. Ellen says it is the Ten Commandments. Personally I believe the Great Commission over what she wrote.
“And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” Matthew 28:18-20.
I believe that all the things that Jesus taught us, carry ALL AUTHORITY over both heaven and earth? Why? Because that is what He told me in the Bible. What I am trying to do is restore the teachings of Christ to their rightful place as the law of the New Covenant.
You cannot serve two masters. Galatians teaches us that we cannot serve both the law and Christ. Any attempt to do so, is to follow “another gospel” that really is no gospel at all. The Old Covenant Law condemns, The gospel of Jesus Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death.
The Gospel will make you feel joy and liberty. Whereas the religion that is based on law will always make you feel condemned. That is not such a strange thing since that is exactly what the law is supposed to do. The law “written and engraven in stones” was a “ministration of death” and a “ministration of condemnation.” 2 Corinthians 3:7, 9.
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law Romans 3:19-20, 28.
If the law remained as an authoritative code that stood ready to judge and condemn all who failed to measure up to is standard, no one would be saved, NOT ONE! The law condemns everyone and declares us all to be worthy of death. Please do not miss how important this is. No one, and I mean no one measures up to the law. Thank God we have a substitute in Jesus Christ who fulfilled the law, who has redeemed us from the laws authority to condemn us. If that were not so we would all perish.
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Galatians 4:4-5
Look into your own soul, and ask yourself, “Are you ready right this moment to stand before the law, and to be held under its scrutiny? Have you achieved the same level of righteousness in your own life as God’s Holy Law? If you were judged this moment, would every thought, motive and desire, every action, and word stand inspection under God’s Holy law? That is what Ellen said you have to do in order to be saved! No one could stand such a test! The only one that has measured up to the law is Jesus Christ! That is the Good news! Jesus grants us His righteousness, and has forgiveness us of our sins.
“For we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:9-10
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Galatians 3:22-25
We are not required to climb Mt. Sinai which quaked with fearful woe and threatened death to all who approached it!
For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:) But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, Hebrews 12:18-22
From Mount Sinai, to the Mount Calvary upon which Christ was Crucified we have records of countless generations who lived under the law, and not one person was able to live up to it, save Jesus Christ Himself. Read the story of the judges, and the kings. The entire Old Testament stands as a record of their failures to live up to that law. That is why we needed a New Covenant according to Jeremiah and Hebrews.
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Galatians 2:21
“The true nature of their spurious Sabbath”
I ask that Seventh-day Adventists visiting this website to try their utmost not to confuse my views with the fanatical views of the 16th and 17th century puritans. Sunday is not a Sabbath. There are no holy days under the New Covenant. I do not keep Sunday as a holy rest day, neither do I teach others to do so.
“Fearful will be the doom”
The law demanded that the woman caught in the act of adultery should be put to death. Christ released her from condemnation, Allow me to repeat what I said earlier. “The Gospel will make you feel joy and liberty. Whereas the religion that is based on law will always make you feel condemned.“
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1.
We are no longer under the “ministration of condemnation.” Rather we are made “able ministers of the New Testament” 2 Corinthians 3:6, 9.
Frankly friend, theologically speaking, Ellen White lived under the “ministration of condemnation” i.e. the Old Covenant. Read her statement again. It certainly sounds like a statement fitting to the “ministration of death, written and engraven in stones” 2 Corinthians 3:7. However friend, according to the Apostle Paul, in that very same verse, its “glory was to be done away.”
“The Seal of God”
From what the Bible does say we can be certain as born again Christians we have it! It is not a future happening exclusively as Ellen White believed, since in the first century Paul was telling the churches they already had the seal.
WHO HATH (past tense) ALSO SEALED US, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. 2 Corinthians 1:22
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, YE WERE (past tense) SEALED with that Holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby YE ARE (present tense) SEALED unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30
The seal is given us immediately when we receive the Holy Spirit. If you have the Holy Spirit you have the seal. If you do not have the Holy Spirit you do not have the seal. It really is that simple. The bottom line is, if you do not have the seal right now, then you are not saved! So stay away from churches which teach the seal is exclusively a future happening. The Good News is if you are saved, “YE ARE (present tense) SEALED unto the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30
Bible Covenants have a SIGN OF REMEMBRANCE attached to them which reminded them to obey the covenant.
For Adam it was Animal Sacrifices
For Noah it was the Rainbow.
For Abraham it was Circumcision
For the Old Covenant it was the Sabbath
For the New Covenant it is Communion or “Lord’s Supper,”
“This do IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME!”
“For this is my blood of the new testament“
The Sabbath was the sign of the Old Covenant. Israels observance of the Sabbath demonstrated their obligation to observe the covenant given at Sinai. Observing the sign of the Old Covenant today demonstrates that a person is still living under an older contract with God, which “glory was to be done away” 2 Corinthians 3:7. There is only one contract that is binding upon God’s people today, i.e. the New Covenant. And the only sign of remembrance we need to observe today is communion.
Each remembrance sign served as a symbol which represented Christ. Paul calls these things “shadows.” The Bible teaches that when Christ died he fulfilled the old covenant doing away with its authority. Paul says these conditions have been “abolished.” Legally speaking God had a contract with ancient Israel, and it ended at the Cross, and was replaced with another newer contract based on better promises.
Speaking personally about the matter, I do not have any special love for Sunday, and understandably so since I was indoctrinated with sour grapes against it for decades. Saying the word “Sunday” with an Adventist is like saying the word “Communist” back in the 50′s and 60′s in the United States. It carries an automatic negative reaction to it. Do to my SDA background, I doubt that I will ever have any particular fondness towards Sunday but can definitely say I have laid down my prejudices against it. The facts on this website about Sabbath and Sunday speak for themselves.
Friend, it is statements like these (quoted from Ellen White in your comment), that hold the Seventh-day Adventist people captive using fear and intimidation. After all no body wants to have “fearful woe” come upon them from God! The commandments of Christ which taught us to love one another bring Peace. Perfect love, casts out all fear! This type of teaching which you quoted certainly does not sound like “Good News!” I pray, that you will find the courage to lay aside Ellen, and take up your New Testament, especially Romans and Galatians, which will set you free from this type of bondage.
“These are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar…. Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” Galatians 4:24, 30.
Ellen White is the Adventists bondwoman, ever tempting you to abandon the Gospel of Justification by Faith, by your own efforts to climb Mt. Sinai, and by resorting to fearful and empty threats of condemnation if you fail. The New Testament does not sanction or endorse taking this position! Statements like these are actually a form of “Spiritual Abuse” that uses fear and intimidation to manipulate the masses into submission.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16
